What Is Inflation Really Tracking At?
Retail Price Index, Consumer Price Index, inflation, deflation, recession. It's all a bit confusing and doesn't quite show up in day to day life the way they talk about it on the news. So what is going on? What are the figures that matter?
Contrary to the most recent figures published by the ONS in August stating that inflation is running at about 8.6% most of us know that this isn't reflect of some of the bills have been paying. Why is that? Well, governments tend to tweak the basket of goods that is used to determine inflation rates, and we think that is sneaky.
Our friends over at Truflationhave a much more accurate way of calculating inflation rates, and they reckon that it's closer to 16.8% at the time of writing this.
